KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest bulk water supplier, Umgeni Water, has appointed Thamsanqa Mkhwanazi as its new CFO and debt officer. He takes over from Kajal Singh, who has been serving as acting CFO since November 2020.

Thamsanqa’s appointment follows a series of executive changes at the water supplier, including the appointment of former CFO Nomalungelo Mkhize as acting CEO, who abruptly tendered her resignation in October 2021, and the subsequent appointment of Sandile Dube as CEO, who was also removed from the role a month into his tenure.

According to the board, the appointment should help stabilise Umgeni Water, which has been experiencing political fights and last week announced it would delay publishing its annual results for the year to end June 2021.

The board further stated that Thamsanqa, an experienced chartered accountant, has extensive experience in leading finance teams. “He is the executive responsible for interacting with stakeholders going forward on all finance related matters,” the statement read.
