Sandiso aims to create sustainable value as new Wesgro CFO, starting in the new year.

Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, has appointed Sandiso Gcwabe as its new CFO, starting in January 2023.

“It is with great excitement and humility that I take on the CFO role at Wesgro,” Sandiso says. “I look forward to bringing my expertise in understanding context, having a clear long-term view, and navigating ambiguity to an already-successful agency in the Cape. I am relentlessly solutions-driven and aim to create sustainable value for the agency as well as key stakeholders in the public and private sector.”

Sandiso joins Wesgro from the Western Cape Liquor Authority, where he has overseen the systems of strategic, financial, risk, compliance and supply chain management.

As a qualified CA(SA), he has served on several forums whose objectives are to improve financial management and reporting in the public sector, including the Public Sector Accounting Forum (PSAF) and as the deputy chairperson of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) southern region public sector committee.

Beyond public sector strategy and financial governance work, he also serves as a trustee of the Khayelitsha Youth & Community Centre (KYCC) Trust, which owns and manages the multimillion-rand Isivivana Centre in Khayelitsha.

He has held various finance leadership roles within the public sector, as well as with the Auditor-General of South Africa.

CEO Wrenelle Stander says that Wesgro is pleased to have Sandiso join the executive leadership team. “He has a solid track record of success and brings a wealth of experience from a diverse range of industries and will be a crucial part of ensuring that the agency remains a globally competitive trade and investment promotion agency into the future. I have full confidence that Sandiso will take Wesgro to new heights”.
