Zakhele's early career in the public sector was as a management accountant for three provincial public entities: KZN Wildlife, Umngeni Water, and Tourism KwaZulu-Natal.
His first CFO role came in 2013 when he was appointed chief financial officer for uMlalazi local municipality. He joined the Midvaal municipality in November 2022, where he is currently serving as chief financial officer.
