CFO South Africa Newsletter | Wednesday May 21 CFO Awards Tremendous success Standard Bank’s Simon Ridley named CFO of the Year 2014 Simon Ridley, Group Financial Director at Standard Bank, has been elected South Africa’s CFO of the Year for 2014. The coveted award was handed out on Thursday 15 May 2014 by jury member Victor Sekese, CEO at accounting and auditing firm SizweNtsalubaGobodo, during a riveting black tie event in the Summer Place in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. The evening was attended by some 200 CFOs and prominent business leaders. Other prestigious awards were won by CFOs Colin Brown (Super Group), Anoj Singh (Transnet), John King (EOH) and Aarti Takoordeen (JSE Limited). Colin Brown has been very successful in redefining the financial function and made great efforts to become a cost-effective, service-oriented partner to the business. Anoj Singh, CFO Transnet winner Compliance & Governance Award Claudelle von Eck, CEO of the Institute of Internal Auditors had the privelege to award the Compliance & Governance Award. Anoj has contributed heavily to build and implement systems designed to detect and prevent compliance breaches. Last but not least he or she is leading the development of a strong compliance culture and best practices that secure buy-in from executives, managers, employees, contractors and business partners all at levels. Chairman & CEO South Africa and Africa Region of Aon handed over the 2nd award for Colin Brown. He has shown great steermanship in creating the right (financial) conditions to execute the new strategy. He and his team contributed with valuable insights, analyses, the (re)allocation of assets and the alignment of the finance function with the new strategy of Supergroup. John King, CFO EOH winner High Performance Team Award The High Performance Team Award was handed out by jury member Rob Otty, Managing Director of Norton Rose Fulbright SA to John King.
