Sibanye-Stillwater and Implats make JSE Top 40 index

This after Sibanye-Stillwater bought Lonmin, making it the biggest platinum producer in the world.

On Thursday, 5 September, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) announced constituent changes to its Top 40 index that will take effect on 23 September.

Among some of the changes are Implats and Sibanye-Stillwater making their way into the Top 40, and Aspen and Sappi falling out of the index.

While being in the Top 40 is nothing new for Implats, having been in and out over recent years, Sibanye-Stillwater’s climb was largely due to a R4.3 billion deal to buy Lonmin earlier this year, making it the world’s biggest platinum producer.
