Hennie Nel nominated for CFO Awards 2019

Santam CFO Hennie Nel has been nominated for the CFO Awards 2019.

Hennie Nel has been nominated for his long-standing role as chief financial officer of Santam, where he has done “good work in a rough economic climate”.

The CFO Awards 2019, known as the ‘Oscars for South African finance professionals’, gives CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions the opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for their exceptional performance and leadership.

Hennie is a qualified CA(SA) and an associate member of CIMA. He completed his article at PwC and became an audit manager for their Singapore and London divisions respectively. In 2001 he was admitted as a partner in the Financial Services practice. 

Hennie joined Santam in September 2012 as their chief financial officer and is responsible for their financial reporting, corporate finance, investments, internal audit, corporate legal service and investor relations. He is also responsible for the Santam Alternative Risk Transfer (SART) business unit. 

He currently serves as a director at Santam Ltd, MiWay group of companies, Centriq group of companies, Santam Structured Insurance group of companies, Sanlam Emerging Markets and FBN General Insurance Ltd. He is also a director of Santam Namibia and a number of specialist Underwriting Managers, Indwe and Brolink, in Namibia. 

He is married with two children (aged 17 and 14) and enjoys running. He has completed five Two Oceans Ultra Marathons between 2012 and 2018.
