To date, some 11,000 votes have been received (and just keep on coming), and as many as 200 companies entered into the African FinTech Awards. At present, the five top-scoring companies are Wala (1,200 votes), Vuga Pay (1,155 votes), Branch (980 votes), Yoco (420 votes), and MyBucks (358 votes).

The competition, which has been open for voting for a month, aims to elicit support for new and innovative financial services and acknowledge the incredible talent of African FinTech companies. Teun van der Veeken, FinTech Community Manager Europe & Africa, says the results demonstrate that Africans are most definitely interested in the future of finance, as well as developments related to financial inclusion to enable the continent to prosper.

The African FinTech Awards and Conference, taking place on 13 October 2016, will form an integrated part of the Finance Indaba Africa, the biggest annual expo and conference for finance professionals on the African continent. The dedicated FinTech Zone will be located on the main expo floor of the Indaba and is where the hottest African FinTech companies will showcase the latest developments on how to boost financial inclusion.
