Standard Bank group finance director Arno Daehnke nominated for 'Oscars for South African finance professionals'.

Arno Daehnke has been nominated for the CFO Awards for his brave change-driven work as Standard Bank’s group finance director.

The CFO Awards 2019, known as the ‘Oscars for South African finance professionals’, gives CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions the opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for their exceptional performance and leadership.

In an interview with CFO South Africa, Arno told CFO South Africa that soon after he was promoted to group finance director, he walked into Standard Bank’s boardroom to do a presentation and wanted to set the tone for his tenure. Rather than focusing foremost financials, he detailed a plan of five value drivers: client experience, employee engagement, risk, conduct, and social, economic and environmental impact, that would result in a financial outcome.

Now he is being nominated for the excellent work he has done since then.

Before being appointed as finance director, Arno was the head of Standard Bank’s Treasury and Capital Management function. He has extensive experience in key financial aspects such as financial planning under varying macroeconomic scenarios, managing a complex banking group balance sheet in volatile financial markets and a deep understanding of both local and international bank regulatory frameworks.

Prior to joining Standard Bank, Arno was one of South Africa’s leading seismologists, using mathematical models to interrogate how shocks move through rocks.

Standard Bank Group is the largest African banking group by assets, with a market cap of approximately R310 billion (USD23 billion), offering a range of banking and related financial services across sub-Saharan Africa.
