CFO Shabeer Khan achieves clean audit for DTI

post-title

South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry (dti), along with several of its entities, has been given a clean audit for 2014/15 by the auditor general of SA, which means the dti's financial statements for the period in question are free of material misstatements.

Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said the department would endeavour to retain the clean audit status. He offered thanks to the dti Director General, Lionel October, and dti CFO, Shabeer Khan, for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the outstanding audit results. He also acknowledged that the department and its staff will have to work hard to maintain the clean audit status going forward.

  • In a previous interview with CFO South Africa, Khan told us that his proudest contribution so far had been improving the audit outcome at the dti. Three years ago the dti was faced with a significant number of audit findings. Khan and his team reviewed certain policies and introduced innovative ways of making the dti more efficient. The other dti entities to obtain a clean audit include the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of SA Limited, the National Credit Regulator, the National Consumer Tribunal, the National Empowerment Fund, the National Metrology Institute of SA, and the SA Bureau of Standards.
