CFOs need to look beyond the bottom line, says Clover's Elton Bosch

“CFOs are the custodians of capital and capital drives a lot of decision-making. Many people don’t look beyond the bottom line, but beyond the economic realities, there are socio-economic issues. CFOs need to start focusing on how they can use capital and explore synergistic opportunities to address not just company issues, but those of the broader community,” said Clover finance boss Elton Bosch, who is widely regarded as one of the leading CFOs in the country.

Bosch was speaking behind the scenes at the 2017 CFO Awards, of which he was a nominee and participated in the pre-dinner masterclass on the role of the CFO in addressing socio-economic challenges, hosted by Vusi Thembekwayo. A chartered accountant and Bcom graduate of the University of the North West, Bosch joined the executive committee of Clover South Africa in June 2012 to further business development, Africa and risk management.

He also expressed his satisfaction at being part of the awards and stressed that CFOs, who were usually introverted, needed a platform to network and gain insights from their peers.
