The former MTN CTIO has been promoted to CEO of MTN’s South African operations.

MTN Group has appointed its chief technology and information officer Charles Molapisi as the new CEO for its South African operations. Charles will be taking over from Godfrey Motsa, who has stepped down from the CEO role.

Taking over Charles’s role of group CTIO is MTN Nigeria’s COO, Mazen Mroue.

The appointment forms part of the group’s objective to sharpen its focus on the continent as the company is seeking to be the dominant presence in Africa across wireless and fixed line infrastructure, and to offer a digital payments platform for individuals and enterprises.

“The changes we are announcing today are about enhancing the structures needed to execute on our Ambition 2025 strategy,” said MTN Group president and CEO, and 2019 CFO of the Year winner, Ralph Mupita.
