Charles Russon and Paul O'Flaherty moving up in Absa

Charles Russon appointed to Absa Corporate and Investment Banking. Paul O'Flaherty to head Engineering Services.

Charles Russon has been appointed as CE of Absa’s Corporate and Investment Banking division with immediate effect. 

Stepping into his previous role as CE for Engineering Services is Paul O’Flaherty, who joined the Absa board as an independent non-executive director in February 2016, a role from which he has now resigned. 

Charles previously worked for Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank in Europe before joining Absa Capital as CFO. He subsequently held the roles of COO of the Corporate and Investment Banking division and regional head of finance for Barclays Africa, before taking on the role of CE of Engineering Services. 

He has served as a member of the Absa Group executive committee since January 2014. 

Paul started his career in auditing and became a partner at PwC South Africa before spending time in the construction industry in Africa and in the Middle East.

He has extensive experience as a CFO, having worked at Group Five Limited, Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC and Eskom Holdings (SOC) Limited. He has also served as a CEO of Group Five Limited, ArcelorMital South Africa and most recently Al Haboodah Group Enterprises LLC
