New CFO, Deborah Davel, will take over from retiring interim CEO and CFO Stephen Griffiths.
Grindrod Shipping has announced the appointment of a new CFO, Deborah Davel, starting on 1 April. Deborah will take over from Stephen Griffiths, who has retired as the company’s interim CEO and CFO.
Deborah has been with the company since 2004, and most recently served as the general manager of treasury and projects, as well as a director of the operating subsidiary of Grindrod Shipping. She has also been a member of the executive committee of the company since 2020.
Prior to joining Grindrod Shipping, Deborah was the project accountant for technology company Intervid International, and group accountant for software company Keystone Solutions Group in London.
She is a qualified CA(SA), and completed her articles at KPMG.
Stephen will be retiring after 13 years with the company. Edward Buttery will take up the CEO role when Stephen steps down, relinquishing his position as a Compensation and Nomination Committee member.

I would like to thank my colleagues for their hard work and consistent support over the years and believe Grindrod Shipping is well positioned for the future,” said Stephen about his retirement.
The company has also appointed Gordon French as an independent, non-executive director and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. He will be appointed as the new chairman of the committee from April. Existing independent non-executive director Cullen Schaar will be appointed as the new Compensation and Nomination Committee at the same time.
