With CFO Awards 2017 just eight days away, CFO SA MD Graham Fehrsen has expressed his excitement at the development of the event. The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

"The 2017 CFO Awards promises to be the most exciting to date. With 26 exceptional finance professionals already interviewed, the judges are busy with their scoring ahead of the black tie evening where the awards will be handed out.

"We are delighted with the growth and recognition of the CFO Awards. Our list of nominees this year bears testimony to the value finance leaders are placing on the awards, given CFOs need to accept their nominations and be open to the scrutiny. We have also been able to attract exceptional partners to this year's awards, with a new principal sponsor in Deloitte," said Graham.

He also welcomed new partners new partners Rand Merchant Bank, Michael Page and Nkonki, along with established sponsors SNG, Oracle, Thomson Reuters and Standard Bank.

Graham said the awards recognised CFOs and their teams who often did not get time in the spotlight.

"Although the night is about handing out awards, I really believe that every CFO on the shortlist deserves recognition. CFOs are essential cogs in the machine, but often shy away from the spotlight. I've yet to meet a CFO who doesn't credit their team, colleagues, CEO and - perhaps most importantly - spouses and family for the success they achieve. The CFO Awards are wonderful way to recognise the extended group of people who ultimately make CFOs successful and this year we have a number of nominees bringing their teams along to the awards."
