Ekurhuleni Metro's Ramasela Ganda nominated for CFO Awards

Ramasela Ganda has been nominated for the 2017 CFO Awards for her achievements while heading up the financial division of the City of Ekurhuleni. The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognises CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

A qualified chartered accountant and University of Pretoria graduate, Atteridgeville-born Ramasela earned her spurs at Deloitte, Anglo American and the National Energy Regulator of SA, before passing up the opportunity to become CFO of JSE-listed Tongaat Hulett to take the reins at the municipality in 2014. She has since helped Ekurhuleni earn two consecutive clean audits - a rare feat.

In a City Press interview, she described the rigours of working in the public sector:

"There are threats and all kinds of things that come with this job. If you don't grant somebody a tender, you're a target. If you check if something is illegal, you're a target. We need, as administrators, to rise up for what we believe is right and not to succumb to unnecessary pressures."
