Exxaro director of finance Riaan Koppeschaar nominated for 2020 CFO Awards

Riaan has served with Exxaro for over 17 years because of his attraction to its constant evolution.

Exxaro Resources director of finance Riaan Koppeschaar has been nominated for the 2020 CFO Awards, which will be taking place on 14 May.

At the annual ‘Oscars for South African finance professionals’, CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions are recognised and rewarded for their outstanding performance and leadership.

Riaan joined Exxaro in 2006 as the general manager of corporate finance and treasury after Kumba Resources was split into an iron ore focused company, Kumba Iron Ore, and a diversified mining company, Exxaro Resources. 

He was appointed as director of finance on 1 July 2016 and is also a director of several Exxaro subsidiary companies, joint ventures, as well as a trustee and investment committee member of the Exxaro Pension and Provident Funds

In an interview with CFO South Africa, Riaan said that Exxaro is a growing company and there’s always something new and exciting happening. “That’s why I’ve always been attracted to the company,” he said.

Before joining Exxaro, Riaan served as the manager of corporate funding at Iscor from 1997 to 2001. He was appointed as the general manager of corporate finance and treasury at Kumba Resources in 2001. 

Riaan served his articles at PwC from 1993 to 1996. He has completed advanced and associate programmes in treasury management, as well as has an advanced diploma in taxation and advanced management programme (Insead), and a certificate in theory of accounting. Riaan is also a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
