AngloGold Ashanti's Christine Ramon was declared CFO of the Year at the 2018 CFO Awards.

AngloGold Ashanti chief financial officer Christine Ramon was the first woman to be named South Africa’s CFO of the Year at the 2018 CFO Awards. It was announced on 10 May at the annual gala event for finance executives, held at Constitution Hill, Johannesburg.

During her acceptance speeches she called for ethical leadership and referred to her position as female role model:

"As a woman leader, I would like to encourage other women leaders to empower and develop other women, stand proud and stand tall in their support.”

Christine shared a similar message on Instagram: "Thank you to my wonderful family, to my great team for all your support and to AngloGold Ashanti! I dedicate my CFO of the Year 2018 award to all of you! This is an inspiration to all the women out there! Let's support each other in achieving greater heights, @ Contitution Hill (South Africa)."

Christine’s winning streak was also the first time anyone took home four awards. The other three awards she won out of the 10 prizes offered that night were the Compliance & Governance Award, the High Performance Team Award, and the Moving into Africa Award. Christine also won the Finance & Technology Award at the 2016 CFO Awards.

Christine comes from a remarkable accounting family from the Eastern Cape. Her brother Mark Kathan is CFO at the JSE-listed AECI, while brother Veran Kathan vacated a CFO role to become managing executive: commercial at Vodacom. Christine’s twin sister Justine Mazzocco is a member of the executive committee at Deloitte Africa

Christine has been one of the country’s most prominent CFOs, working at Sasol from 2006 until 2013 and at AngloGold Ashanti since October 2014. She is also a board member at MTN and the chairperson of the CFO Forum.
