Monash SA Acting CFO Alvin Liew has been nominated for the CFO Awards 2018. This is Alvin’s debut nomination.

The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', the CFO Awards recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.
After enjoying stints in various management positions at Sunway Group, KPMG and Aircel, Alvin joined Monash South Africa in 2013. The chartered accountant is currently the Acting CFO for Monash South Africa and Finance Director, Laureate South Africa, and is pursuing a master’s degree in international business. He is tasked with ERP implementation, the production of C-suite presentations and leading financial and strategic due diligence processes, among other duties.
In a fascinating talk at Finance Indaba 2016, Alvin delved into maximising the ROI of a postgraduate education.
“Looking back on the profiles of several of our graduates at Monash South Africa, it is clear that many enrolled in our postgraduate programmes at a time when they were working towards middle or senior management levels within their organisation. This typically occurs between three and five years into their existing roles, as they are taking the first tentative steps towards middle or senior management. This period of transition truly is the ‘sweet spot’ when making the decision to enrol in a postgraduate qualification,” said Alvin.
