Oakbay Resources gets new CEO and FD

post-title

Jacques Roux has announced he will be leaving Oakbay Resources, where he was CEO, after just one year in the job, effective 31 March. He will be replaced by George van der Merwe, who will stand as acting CEO from 1 April.

Van der Merwe previously held the CEO but resigned in August 2015 when Varun Gupta took over. Roux took over the role from Gupta, who resigned in April 2016 following the widely publicised resignation of Oakbay's external auditors, bankers and sponsor.

Oakbay has said that, in line with the CEO succession plan, "both Mr Roux and Mr Van der Merwe shall utilise the March notice period to ensure a seamless transition and handover of responsibilities".

In other news from the company, Melanie Chong (pictured) has been appointed in a permanent capacity as financial director. Chong has a strong background in the financial services industry as a CA, which includes several years of experience in credit application with Investec Limited, and a six-year stint with Deloitte & Touche in Switzerland (and South Africa). She was VP of the Businesswomen's Association from October 2014 to November 2015, and is currently Chair of the Audit & Risk Management Committee on JSE-listed South Ocean Holdings Limited, as well as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
