Companies need to go beyond ESG ratings in order to make a real impact
ESG expert Brett Wallington unpacks why ESG commitments don’t measure impact on Earth and society.
Brett is an award-winning sustainability expert and ESG reporting professional. He has headed up sustainability teams in large ecotourism operations such as Wilderness Safaris as well as Africa’s largest bank by assets, Standard Bank. He has also contributed to various institutional bodies over his career, for example serving on the working group that developed the United Nations Environmental Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) – Positive Impact Principles. An entrepreneurial by nature, Brett has gone on to found one other impact advisory businesses alongside Paragon Impact, that being Impact Capital Africa, an impact and ESG advisory business operating out of Johannesburg, South Africa. Brett is passionate about establishing a global impact standard that ultimately asks the “so what” question of impact – transcending the current tick box approach that has not served the purpose of achieving the SDGs by 2030.
