Pretty Makukule started her career in the banking sector and subsequently joined the public sector, working in all three spheres of government for over 20 years. Currently, she is the CFO of South African National Parks (SANParks). Before his, she was the CFO of the Department of Higher Education and Training, overseeing the financial compliance of 26 public entities under the department.
Prior to her current role, Pretty was the CFO of the Department of Science and Innovation for five years. Before that, she served as the senior manager of finance for the Tshwane Economic Development Agency from 2013 to 2015, and as CFO from 2015 to 2016.
From 2010 to 2013, she was the director of financial accounting for the Department of Roads and Transport in Gauteng, and from 2008 to 2009 she was the director financial manager for the Urban Transport Fund Entity.
She also served as a non-executive director at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), on the Audit and Risk Committee at the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), as well as on the shared Audit Committee at Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
For her work as the Department of Higher Education and Training's CFO, Pretty was nominated for the 2023 CFO Awards.
