CFO Pretty Makukule nominated for 2023 CFO Awards

Pretty Makukule will be competing for the CFO of the Year and the Public Sector CFO of the Year title.

Department of Higher Education and Training CFO Pretty Makukule has been nominated for the 2023 CFO Awards.

She joins the list of nominees who will be competing for the coveted CFO of the Year title at the annual “Oscars of Finance”, which is now entering its 10th year! Pretty is also in the running for the Public Sector CFO of the Year.

The CFO Awards have a proud history of recognising and celebrating excellence. The 10th Annual CFO Awards will be an exceptional celebration of the finest in finance of 2023, but will also shine a spotlight on 10 years of winners, recognising the enormous contribution made by finance leaders to the economy and direction of South Africa for the last decade.

Pretty started her career in the banking sector and subsequently joined the public sector, working in all three spheres of government for over 20 years. Currently, she oversees the financial compliance of 26 public entities.

Prior to her current role, Pretty was the CFO of the Department of Science and Innovation for five years. Before that, she served as the senior manager of finance for the Tshwane Economic Development Agency from 2013 to 2015, and as CFO from 2015 to 2016.

From 2010 to 2013, she was the director of financial accounting for the Department of Roads and Transport in Gauteng, and from 2008 to 2009 she was the director of financial management for the Urban Transport Fund Entity.

She also served as a non-executive director at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), on the Audit and Risk Committee at the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), as well as on the shared Audit Committee at Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
