Ayanda Mafuleka new CFO of AEMFC

post-title

Ayanda Mafuleka was recently appointed as CFO of African Exploration, Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC).

Previously the CFO of the National Credit Regulator (NCR), Ayanda Mafuleka was appointed CFO of state coal mining company, African Exploration, Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC), effective 1 February this year. She took over from Bathandwa Mdyesha, who she says “left a good foundation”. We asked Ayanda a few quick questions about why she chose to change jobs, and what she hopes the year will bring for her.

What prompted you to move from your previous role to take up this new job?
“I had been having conversations with my 'self' since the beginning of 2017 as to the direction that my career must take, especially the industries in which I am interested. One of the industries I want to contribute invaluably to is mining. When the opportunity to work for a state mining company presented itself towards the end of 2017, I prayed about it and then I grabbed it with both hands.”

What do you most look forward to in this role?
“I'm so looking forward to learning more about coal mining operations and tax implications, capital investments and the financing of mining operations. The company has entered into joint ventures and is looking into mining expansions. I am excited to be part of the team that will grow AEMFC to be among the top five local coal producers in South Africa and in so doing, contribute to the country's economic growth.”

What is on your radar to achieve in the next three months?
“In the next three months I want to steer my team to achieve a clean audit for the 2017/18 financial year, as well as meet all the short-term capital funding requirements.”

What do you think the coming year will hold for you and the team?
“I have declared 2018 one of my best years spiritually, career and health wise, and I see myself in love this year! I have been blessed to have joined a team of committed, performing and principled individuals who have fully embraced the vision of AEMFC. I'm positive that the year will be a great one for myself and everyone around me!”
