Inspired by Robin Sharma’s book, Averen is learning to embrace the benefits of an early morning.
Everyone knows the saying “the early bird catches the worm”. For many, however, the benefits of the early morning hours are still unrealised. Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) CFO Averen Deonanan, is one of them. “Not being an early riser, I missed out on the benefits of an early morning routine, when the world is quiet,” Averen says.
However, he explains that after reading Robin Sharma’s book, The 5am Club, he set a personal goal to become one.
The 5am Club teaches you how to use the first hour of your day to boost your mental focus, productivity and happiness. It’s a fictional story of an artist, an entrepreneur and a tycoon who learn the benefits and challenges of waking up before the sun from a mysterious mentor.
The book also provides a variety of tactics and principles for achieving high-performance in your personal and professional life.
“This book is helping me reshape my behaviour so that I can embrace those early hours,” Averen explains.
He shares his top four tips on how to fully benefit from waking up early.
- You need to focus on using your talents, free from distractions, to continually improve yourself.
- Adapting to a new routine, like becoming an early riser, takes two months for your brain to accept. Don’t give up after a week!
- Making time for exercise, as well as reflection and solitude, is important n allowing you to deliver the best and most you can.
- Dedicate the first 90 minutes of each workday to projects that matter the most.
