CFO South Africa now on Facebook

post-title

While our presence on LinkedIn and Twitter is crucial as ever, we have recently decided to make the plunge on Facebook as well. Many, and I am one of them, are active on Facebook, but regard it as a bit of a personal space, away from work. An increasing amount of people around the world, however, use the popular social media platform as their one-stop-shop for everything current and exciting. If you're one of those, you better head over and 'like' CFO South Africa.

"Our Facebook page is an easy way to stay up to date with our interviews, news articles and events. And for people with social media fatigue, it saves you having to stop in elsewhere!"

As any CFO knows, there is nothing better then some statistics to back up a decision. South Africa has 12 million active Facebook users (Kenya has 4,5 million and Nigeria no less than 15 million!). An increasing numbers of big South African brands - especially consumer facing ones like Discovery Health, Standard Bank and KPMG - have Facebook pages with over 10,000 likes.

As we registered our Facebook page and started (ironically) tweeting about it, we were immediately bombarded with offers to 'buy likes'. In order to make a page look more reputable you can be 'liked' by 500 people for only 8 US dollars. Building a platform of fake followers is however not why a community organisation like ours exists. I am very interested to see how fast our 'likes' will start growing, but if it's slow, that's also fine.

Whatever the case, our Facebook page is an easy way to stay up to date with our interviews, news articles and events. And for people with social media fatigue, it saves you having to stop in elsewhere!
