Jason Quinn has resigned from his role as group FD at Absa, and will step in as the new CEO at Nedbank starting May 2024.
Nedbank has appointed Absa group FD Jason Quinn as its new CEO-designate. He will replace the retiring Mike Brown in May next year, after completing his notice period with Absa.
In a statement, the company said that the appointment is still subject to regulatory approval, including the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
Jason was reappointed to the role of group financial director at Absa in March 2022 after serving as its interim CEO from April 2021.
He first started serving as Absa's group FD in September 2016. He is the chairman of the models committee and a member of the group risk and capital, management, credit concentration risk, information technology and separation oversight committees. Before joining the group, he was a partner at EY. He joined the group in 2008 as the financial controller and was appointed as the head of finance in 2014 after holding several senior finance positions.
Jason is a director of Absa Financial Services, Woolworths Financial Services and is an employer-appointed trustee of the Absa Pension Fund. He holds a BCom (Honours) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is a CA(SA).
Jason has also been nominated for the CFO Awards 2019 for his work as the group FD at Absa. He was again nominated in 2020 and won the CFO of the Year title, as well as the Strategy Execution Award and the Moving into Africa Award.
“Jason’s appointment follows a rigorous process led by the board, considering both internal and external candidates, from which Jason emerged as the msot suitable candidate. The board and I look forward to the value that Jason will add in building on the strong foundations he inherits and working with the exco team and fellow Nedbankers in taking Nedbank to the next level,” said Nedbank group chair Daniel Mminele.
Chris Snyman has been appointed as the interim FD at Absa, until a suitable replacement for Jason has been appointed. Chris joined the bank in 2008 and is head of financial decision support, a role which he has held for the last 10 years.
