Peter Matlare (pictured) has been appointed deputy CEO of Barclays Africa, effective 1 August 2016.

According to Barclays Africa, David Hodnett will continue in his role as deputy CEO and FD, focusing on the South African banking operations.

Over the years Matlare, who holds a BSc (Hons) and MA from the Universities of Plymouth and York respectively, has held various senior roles with Vodacom Group Limited, Vodacom South Africa, the SABC, and Primedia Broadcasting & Entertainment. He was CEO of Tiger Brands Limited from 2008 to 2015, leading its failed venture into Nigeria, which cost the group billions.
