Marius van Niekerk has been appointed as the new executive VP and CFO of OceanaGold.
Multinational miner OceanaGold has appointed Marius van Niekerk as its new executive VP and CFO. Marius will be replacing Scott McQueen, who didn’t want to relocate to Vancouver, Canada, for family reasons.
Marius will start in the new role in “the middle of the year” from its head office in Vancouver.
He holds a bachelor in economic and management sciences from the University of Pretoria, an honours in accounting sciences from the University of South Africa and he is a qualified CA in South Africa and a CPA in Canada. He has 25 years of broad-based mining and technology industry experience spanning South Africa, the UK, Mozambique, Singapore and Canada.
Marius spent 13 years with BHP and joins OceanaGold from Newcrest Mining, where he is currently VP of finance for its Americas division, based in Vancouver. From 2019 to 2023 he was responsible for the commercial integration and financial and commercial oversight of the Red Chris and Brucejack mines in British Columbia, Canada.
He also spent 13 years working with BHP, and has 25 years of broad-based mining and technology industry experience spanning South Africa, the UK, Mozambique, Singapore and Canada.
