"We believe there is a lot of potential in Africa and this is why we are investing heavily. Up to 60 percent of our solutions are USSD- and SMS-based, but as Internet access becomes cheaper and easier, we are increasing our investment in web and mobile banking apps. Through our partnership model, we sit down with banks and understand their requirements to produce customised solutions," said Sebi Salim, a consultant at Eclectics International, a Microsoft Africa Partner of the Year in 2016.

Sebi was making his pitch in the Retail Banking category at the African FinTech Awards at the Finance Indaba Africa 2016 in October.

Kenyan-based Eclectics International services more than 200 banks and other financial institutions in 23 African countries, providing affordable IT solutions to increase efficiencies. Eclectics is platform-agnostic and has integrated successfully with a host of third-party solutions overs its seven years of operating. It employs over 200 workers and processes over 600 million transactions through its e-Connect gateway.

The African FinTech Awards celebrate innovators that shape the future of finance, and acknowledges the work these companies are doing to have a positive impact on their target markets. The nominees were chosen by a panel of industry experts, stakeholders and investors from all over the world, who selected the three finalists in six categories to deliver their pitch at the Indaba.

The Finance Indaba is the biggest annual event on the continent for financial managers and specialists who are seeking partnerships to drive progress. Thousands of delegates will gain valuable insights into realising financial performance and growth, becoming more efficient and accessing funding, among a host of other opportunities from leading players in financial services.
