David Hamilton says Coupa was proud to be able to recognise all the incredible work that CFOs are doing.

On 16 November, CFO South Africa crowned the winners of the annual 2022 CFO Awards at the Polo Room in Inanda, Sandton. “The evening was most enjoyable and provided a unique opportunity to network with peers and recognise all of the incredible work that CFOs are doing for their respective companies, and for the South African community,” says David Hamilton, regional director at Coupa.

Coupa was one of the Associate Sponsors of the evening, and handed out the Finance Transformation Award to Momentum Metropolitan Holdings group FD Risto Ketola. “A great CFO is at the centre of every business function, leading company growth. They have visibility, control and agility over business finances, leverage technology to scale business solutions and make smart investments during times of economic uncertainty,” David adds.

Other winners of the night included Tiger Brands’ Deepa Sita, who won the Compliance & Governance, and Finance & Technology Awards, Thungela’s Deon Smith, who won the High-Performance Team Award, Hollard’s Dirk Viljoen, who won the Transformation & Empowerment Award, and Lanseria’s Mpolaheng Mohlopi, who was named the Young CFO of the Year.

“Each of the winners were recognised for the transformation that they are making in their respective companies. The diversity of the awards is reflective of the multiple pillars that CFOs are balancing on a daily basis,” says David.

The big winner of the night, walking away as the 2023 CFO of the Year, was Standard Bank’s Arno Daehnke. He also received the Strategy Execution Award, and the Moving into Africa Award.

“Arno was a worthy winner of the CFO of the Year Award. He has been instrumental in leading Standard Bank through significant transformation and growth over the last few years, and was deservedly recognised for these efforts on the evening,” David adds.

He congratulates all the winners for “driving significant change in their businesses and making smart, data-driven decisions to help their teams and organisations succeed”.

David’s advice for next year’s nominees is to explore how other finance leaders are using technology to meet their strategic and financial management objectives. “Invest in business processes now and enter this phase of economic uncertainty with confidence. Prepare well, seize opportunities and respond quickly to change. And most importantly, keep up the tremendous effort and continue sharing your success stories with the CFO community.”
