JSE appoints Fawzia Suliman as new CFO

Fawzia takes over from Carmini Kander, who has been acting as CFO since May 2022.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has announced the appointment of Fawzia Suliman as its new CFO, starting 9 January 2023.

Fawzia takes over from interim CFO Carmini Kander, who stepped in after the resignation of Aarti Takoordeen in May 2022. Carmini will remain in an executive finance role until April 2023 to ensure a smooth transition.

After completing her articles at KPMG, Fawzia joined Credit Suisse’s AMB Securities as a financial manager. In 2002 she was promoted to the role of financial director at Credit Suisse’s First South Securities. After that, she went on to serve as the CFO of Macquarie Holdings, and later became the COO of its Equities South Africa subsidiary. In 2018, she became the CEO of Mazi Macquarie Securities. Most recently, she served as the special projects executive at Stanlib.

“Ms Suliman brings deep strategic and industry knowledge to her new role, and extensive experience in navigating complex operating environments,” the JSE said in a statement.
