What will you be talking about at the Finance Indaba?
"I will be speaking about the regulation and transformation of the accounting profession."
What challenges can you help finance professionals with in 2016?
"We are an open professional body that has a lot of joint ventures and cooperative agreements with multiple bodies, both locally and internationally. When someone becomes part of our community, we develop them and ensure they become successful, actively sourcing clients. We publish the B&A Review journal and Accounting Weekly newsletters, provide technical support and CPD training, among various other initiatives."
How do you differ from other professional bodies?
"Our structure is a bit different from other bodies in that we have an entry-level membership that is open to anyone interested in the profession - students, HR managers, aspiring accountants, consultants - it doesn't matter what you do. This membership gives you all the benefits. We've established a career pathway to designations, which is separate from our memberships. We have four such designations registered at SAQA in two streams - one for people employed in commerce and industry (junior accountant, financial manager and financial director) and the other for people in practice. We've had these since inception."
"We see ourselves the gateway to accounting profession. We don't try to be the leaders, but focus on providing access to anyone seeking a career in accounting. We sit down with you, work out a career development and training path and monitor your progress and facilitate mentorship. We also help you find a job and set up a practice. We pride ourselves on creating a successful business for you, other than being a professional body with designations."
What is SAIBA's relationship with the SA Accounting Academy?
"The academy has been our CPD division since 2010 and exclusively meets SAIBA's training requirements. It provides online courses and face-to-face courses across the nation."
