How CIMA supports success

The world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is a partner at the Finance Indaba 2017. CIMA's qualifications comprise a unique blend of management accounting, financial accounting and business-focused subjects to produce graduates capable of leading from the front. The local chapter is headed by Zahra Cassim (pictured). We asked the organisation about its alternative qualifications and undergraduate support initiatives.

The Finance Indaba is the biggest annual event on the continent for financial managers and specialists who are seeking partnerships to drive progress. How does one go about becoming a CIMA Global Learning Partner?

"In order to become a CIMA Global Learning Partner, research and preparation needs to be done in line with the following:

  • Know your market - undertake research to identify needs of local/target market
  • Appoint a Course Leader - put together a team of skilled and enthusiastic staff who are committed to the development of CIMA students
  • Deliver Courses - Offer flexible and innovative courses which are in line with market needs and which deliver market leading results for students and their employers
  • Support Students - Offer suitable resources, facilities, exam and revision practice, mentoring, counselling as appropriate
  • Review performance - Review course performance, including assessments of staff and exam results, identifying and implementing action plans to ensure enhanced performance in problem areas going forward."

Global Business Services Programme

Islamic Finance Qualifications

"CIMA leads in Islamic finance through a suite of award-winning self-study qualifications that meet market demands and requirements. CIMA's Islamic finance qualification structure reflects the evolving requirements in business. Our Islamic finance qualifications have won awards to recognise their world-leading status in the industry including 'Best training institution' at the 2015 Islamic Business & Finance Awards for our outstanding contribution towards the training and education of professionals in the field of Islamic finance. A career in Islamic finance requires unique management skills and knowledge. Professionals in this field must ensure that all financial activities are carried out in accordance with Shari'ah principles, and the standards, guidelines and best practices established by governing bodies. We have three layers of the qualification namely: Certificates in Islamic Finance, Diploma in Islamic Finance and Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance."

Please tell us about your undergraduate club.

"The Undergraduate Club provides undergraduates of any study field intending to pursue a CIMA qualification upon graduation, a discounted entry into CIMA at a nominal fee of £10 per year.

"By joining the CIMA Undergraduate Club, students join a reputable, international professional body at a nominal fee.

"Students will receive a discount of 25% on their exemptions fees for each year they remain a CIMA University Club member on graduation up to a maximum of three (3) years. This effectively means 75% off their exemption fees should they remain a member for three (3) years, 50% for those who remain members for two (2) years and 25% off for one (1) year. Currently, CIMA exemption fees are capped at £165.

"Students also receive access to the free Financial Management Magazine and CIMA Apps, providing them with resources to aid them through their CIMA journey. They also receive invitations to CIMA student events where they will have the opportunity to mingle with CIMA students, members and employers."
