The JSE is located in Sandton and offers secure, efficient primary and secondary capital markets across a diverse range of securities, supported by post-trade and regulatory services. It is the market of choice for local and international investors looking to gain exposure to the leading capital markets in South Africa and the broader African continent.
The JSE is currently ranked the 19th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalisation and the largest exchange on the African continent.
The bourse was formed in 1887 during the first South African gold rush. Following the first legislation covering financial markets in 1947, the JSE joined the World Federation of Exchanges in 1963 and upgraded to an electronic trading system in the early 1990s. The bourse demutualised and listed on its own exchange in 2005.
The JSE has undertaken major technological upgrades over the past few years on a consistent drive to upgrade trading, clearing and settlement, which is still continuing. Its finance department is headed by award-winning CFO Aarti Takoordeen.
The Finance Indaba is the biggest annual event on the continent for financial managers and specialists who are seeking partnerships to drive progress. Thousands of delegates will gain valuable insights into realising financial performance and growth, becoming more efficient and accessing funding, among a host of other opportunities from leading players in financial services.
